Robert Matas

Robert Matas is the chair of the Commission's Vancouver Development Chronology Project. He was appointed to the Vancouver City Planning Commission in 2014. A journalist with 40 years experience, he retired from The Globe and Mail in 2012.

During a robust career with newspapers in Winnipeg, Toronto and Vancouver, he has covered trends in urban planning and development, public engagement and municipal politics. He has a particular interest in the effectiveness of government programs, efforts of urban renewal and municipal economic initiatives. He has written extensively about developments in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, the former Expo lands along False Creek and the British Properties in North Vancouver. He has lived with his family in Vancouver since 1988.
